Smartcards and Mercs for Go North East

Go North East is introducing smartcards to its services, with all vehicles to be fitted with card readers by the end of this year, as part of the company’s ongoing investment plans. It will also be buying another nine Mercedes-Benz Citaros, for services in North Tyneside, and upgrading vehicles on the service between Heworth Metro Station and Washington, with new MetroLink branding to promote the service’s connection with the Metro.

Go North East managing director Peter Huntley says: “In the midst of the current difficult trading conditions it would be easy to sit back and postpone our investment and development plan to avoid any risk.  However, following the positive response to our recent improvements from our passengers, we are confident they will continue to appreciate investment which improves quality and frequency of their services.”
