Safety training videos from Blue Slate
Two DVDs from Blue Slate Videos provide valuable training resources for operators. ‘Everyone’s a Passenger - Disability Awareness for PCV Drivers’ DVD guides the driver through the stages of recognising various disabilities. It covers the guiding principles for interacting with passengers with disabilities. It includes scenarios demonstrating both good and poor practices, and it looks at some of the things a driver can do to make life a little less difficult for passengers with disabilities.
It has been developed with guidance from Henshaws Disability Support Service, who are actively involved in training programmes and consultancy services to organisations and service providers who support people with a visual impairment or disability.
The 30-minute DVD comprises individual chapters with an on-screen menu giving access to each chapter to suit individual training needs, and there is an option to play all chapters in sequence from beginning to end.
The topics covered include: Passengers who are sight impaired or severely sight impaired; Passengers who have physical disabilities; Passengers who have learning disabilities; Passengers who are hearing impaired or severely hearing impaired; and Help to spot passengers with disabilities.
The second DVD, ‘Staying Safe -Practical Health & Safety For LGV Drivers’ highlights the day-to-day health and safety risk that drivers are exposed to and focuses on driver safety, rather than driving safely. Blue Slate says that this 35-minute safety training film is relevant to UK Drivers’ CPC training but is also appropriate for general driver training and induction training and is suitable for both new and experienced drivers alike.
The topics covered include: Falling from vehicles; Dangers from other vehicles; Security of loads; Tail lift safety; Fitness to drive; Hazardous substances; and Use of PPE.
